Multicultural Community Center

200 MLK Jr. Student Union, UC Berkeley, Berkeley, CA. 2nd floor.

OPENING RECEPTION (April 26, 2012 8pm-10pm) to celebrate APA history and experiences. Reception will include FREE FOOD and PERFORMANCES.

EXHIBIT OPEN FROM APRIL 26 - MAY 7

ABOUT MAKING WAVES:
Inspired by the different waves of Asian Pacific Americans throughout history, Making Waves celebrates the diverse experience and histories of the APA community. Making Waves is an opportunity to challenge the category and identity of ‘APA’. We remember and acknowledge the ongoing APA struggles and movements while examining closer what it means to be APA. Identity categories such as APA can not only lead to affirmation of identity and coalition building, but also erasure of different cultures, ethnicities, and languages. With this exhibit we acknowledge and resist against this erasure, and strive for a more complex understanding of Asian Pacific American communities. Through the Making Waves exhibit, we hope to not only swim through the rich histories and experiences of the APA community, but also celebrate the way we, as APA individuals and communities, make our own waves in the forms of new ideas, understandings, and activisms.

Sully's Swimming Lessons

I have a confession to make.
I'm cheating on Juku and Kami with another baby.
I just can't get enough of my niece Sully.

I joined Holly and GMA Shirley for her first swimming lesson.
She had a blast playing in the water and made sure everyone knew by squealing
every time she splashed water at her mom's face.

Jack Spade and a Movie

Thanks Makoy for the heads up!
My order came in!
Perfect size for what I carry around with me.

Thanks to Amado too. Even though he doesn't know yet that he bought this for me.

Over the weekend Amado and I caught an early showing of Jiro Dreams of Sushi with some friend.
If you are a foodie, this film would be your food pron.
Musical score and cinematography was on point. I was getting the chills just looking
at the sushi flashing on the screen.
Besides being visually pleasing, the story was also very touching and inspiring.
I don't want to spoil the film so just catch the trailer here.

Oh, some random things we spotted after the movie.
Others might say its a sign.

I say it was..
Sign to get some awesome grub after watching that movie!

April

After watching CreativeLive all weekend long, I was really looking forward to working with April.
In the emails and text messages sent between us two,
it was clear which direction we wanted to take our session.
Light, light and light.
Thank goodness the sun decided to cooperate with us.

You look great April! The whole set. Trust!

I adore these two boys. Juku and Kami played with Dynamite and Kaboom when they were still puppies.

Thanks April! And shout out to Adrian again for helping out.
For the hair-shooshing, moving things around, helping out with my equipment and vacuuming.
I don't know why he was vacuuming.
