Non-Writers Block

I was asked to draft a bio along with a photograph that I showed at Barangay LA's Tulay art exhibit.
It feels awkward having to write about myself and toot my own horn.

I paced around the room, listened to Jason Mraz loudly hoping to alleviate the anxiety and ended up
opting for silence. Had two cups of coffee, walked the dogs around the block and still nothing.

I made a few calls to get some pointers and decided to jot down some notes.
Still, my notepad was blank.
What was it that got me into photography?

I was never good at writing. Thoughts flutter in my head and I have a hard time
narrating things in the best way possible.
My camera became my tool to tell those stories.
It could be about my weekend with Amado and our dogs, good times with new and old friends
or people wanting their portraits taken.
Whether it be objects or people, there is always a story to be told.

Boro and Jenny : Malibu Wedding

We attended two weddings this month.
First was my cousin Ryan and Holly's wedding. I'm kinda bummed that I wasn't able to take pictures
that day. Then again I was part of the wedding party so it would have been
awkward carrying my camera around with me.
I was also able to enjoy the wedding a bit more, less worrying about
my camera bag the whole night.

The second wedding we attended was Boro and Jenny's wedding in Malibu.
We were rushing down PCH trying to make a 4pm wedding.
Pulled up 30 minutes late but luckily the ceremony was running late too.

Kinda glad that we were a bit late since I was able to get this shot of the bride and her father.

The bride and groom entrance.

First dance.

The wedding and location was very romantic but the desserts table was the highlight
of my night.
If you guys don't know by now, Hi I'm Deney and I'm a dessertaholic.

And We Get To Breathe...

Our grueling week started last wednesday.
We had Barangay LA's TULAY Art Gallery for 3 days, Ryan and Holly's wedding
and Amado's Mom's birthday all back to back.
Good thing Amado took a couple of days off so we can relax after all of that.

Our Wednesday started a bit late. Its been a while since we've slept in.
Had brunch at Norths End Cafe and walked around the strand for a bit.
On our way back we found a new cupcake place.
I like that they had simple cupcakes.

We made our way back home so we can rest with the girls (Juku and Kami).
They look a bit odd right now, its their summer haircut.

Amado grabbed one of the groomsmen gifts we got from my cousin.
He was really excited to try out knitting.
We've tried it before, big fail.
Internet really does help you learn almost anything.
Trust me, thats how I learned more about photography.
Thank you YouTube!

It took a few replays and taking out knots but I think he's getting the hang of it.

The Dills

I met Scott, Maima and Little Charlie at my cousin's baby announcement party.
Everyone could not get enough of Little Charlie.
Very animated and loves loves loves pickles.
Oh did I mention their last name is Dill.
Fits right?

Maima asked if I could take their family portrait and I gladly said yes.
I really had a great time with their family.
I think I talked too much the whole session though.

I suggested getting some photos of just mom and dad.
Scott knew what I wanted without me having to say it.
The tickle method. Sounds weird right but it works!
I live for candid shots and they were giving very fun ones left and right.
I think I even yelled "Save it for the camera!".

This shoot definitely reminded me why I love photography.

"Just Us" Day

Knowing that the next couple of days are going to be really hectic,
Amado and I decided to take it easy and unwind at the Getty.
Even the weather was cooperating with us.

I really love the Getty museum.
Its much more relaxed. You can take your time going from one exhibit to another
and take breaks in between.
Sit on the grass area or the cafe and soak up the sun.

They had a few good exhibitions open this time.
Really enjoyed the Paris Life and Luxury.
Great photos from the Revolutionary Project: Cuba.
And Amado really took his time with the Gods of Angkor exhibit.

I was really drawn to this one.
Mostly light colors but a still very pronounced subject.
And I really like how she's a bit fidgety. Her hand was probably the only thing
she was able to move while she was told to stay still.

Amado's favorite was the statue of Mercury.
"Jeremy Scott Adidas", I told him.

And then theres Lady Gaga.

And of course part of our trip was to eat. The indoor cafe is definitely less crowded
than the outdoors one.
Food was good too and not overpriced.
